A man in rural Pontiac has just signed a contract for his new book. Steven L. Shrewsbury has announced that his horror novel “HAWG” will be released as a trade paperback from Graveside Tales.
HAWG is a story about a piggish monster terrorizing a small town in Illinois. Full of gritty, rural realism and colorful characters, one learns those who dwell in Miller’s Fork are bigger monsters than the creature himself. Noted author & artist Bob Freeman designed the cover for this novel.
“I wrote HAWG to tell a simple monster tale, ” Shrewsbury admits. “I never intended for the work as a mixture of Edward Lee, Richard Laymon and Robert E. Howard, but some reviewers have said that is so. The gritty edge is pretty sharp, cutting deep and often.”
Though Shrewsbury’s previous novels GODFORSAKEN and THROUGHBRED were more in the genres of sword & sorcery or hardcore fantasy, this novel through small press Graveside Tales is a leap into horror. “My fantasy material is usually pretty strong and I’ve written horror tales for years. Though I’ve had about 350 short stories published online or in print magazines, I am very excited to see HAWG see print.”
Steven will be promoting HAWG this summer and beyond, starting at HYPERICON in Nashville. Look for his book signings in shops in Illinois soon.
